Coolant Replacement Adventure!

A couple weeks ago, we spent one lovely Sunday cleaning out the chip tr…I mean COOLANT tray. We got a ton of metal chips out of the tray, and are all ready now with our optimized machine and coolant. This may have been a big job, but it’s better than having foaming coolant and puddles on the floor!

Joint Open House 2017

Here’s some old footage from April 2017 when I went to the Joint Open House of Elliot Matsuura, DMG Mori, and EMEC. I also met up with Liam Cooley. It was an awesome time, and I’m really looking forward to the Joint Open House this year!

Clara is da boss

There’s a new sheriff in town at the Grimsmo Knives workshop, and John’s too afraid to stand up to her. When he realizes that Clara has become the new boss at Grimsmo Knives, he submits, but is saddened by how everything has changed. He can no longer procrastinate on making knives by playing dress up and watching cat videos.

Endmills and ideas!

Shop life has made it to the double digits! And many more to come. In this episode, you get to meet John’s son, Leif (no, not Lathe), you’ll learn a bunch about endmills, and get to see a bunch of stuff that’s been happening around the shop lately. Enjoy!

How to Cut Foam

This video may be a little longer, but you will learn everything that has went into the process of making our foam cases what they are today. Now, every knife comes with a foam insert, which the brothers Grimsmo design and mill themselves, and a hard plastic case.

John also came up with 2 general tricks that will help anyone with cutting foam!

99 Shop Problems, but the tumbler ain’t one

Happy New Year!!!

In this week’s shop life, John is challenged by messed up handles, and is reminded that even a Grimsmo is human. Meanwhile, Erik and his Tumbler are still in the honeymoon phase, as Erik learns something that makes him love it even more (if that’s even possible).

Using a Norseman to dig up dinosaurs!

Most knife owners wouldn’t pound their Grimsmo knife into soft rock on a regular basis, but how does the Norseman hold up to a paleontologist doing just that?

John’s brother in law, Dr. David C. Evans, comes to the shop to show us his beaten and battered knife. The knife is still beautiful, but could definitely use a CNC spa treatment.
